Dhanush is basking in the glory of the box-office success of Raanjhanaa, his maiden Hindi film as a hero. Dhanush was paired up opposite Bollywood sizzler Sonam Kapoor in the film directed by Anand L. Rai. Not many gave the film a prior ‘thumbs up’ as Dhanush was a largely unknown entity (to North Indians) as an actor and Sonam wasn’t having the best phase in her career.
But Raanjhanaa’s success has put Dhanush firmly among the list of actors to reckon with in Bollywood. Speaking recently to reporters, the outspoken Dhanush revealed that he would have become a chef at a restaurant had he not taken to acting in films. Son of director-producer Kasthuri Raja and son-in-law of superstar Rajinikanth, Dhanush appears to be enjoying one of his best phases as an actor.
Even Ambikapathy, the Tamil-dubbed version of Raanjhanaa, is doing reasonably well for a dubbed version. Queried by a reporter as to what he would have become had he not entered the film industry, Dhanush replied saying “I probably would have become a chef at a star hotel. But since I turned as an actor at a very young age, I couldn’t pursue any degree. Else I would have taken up hotel management!”
Playing down the fact that he is part of an exclusive club of South Indian heroes who have managed a ‘hit film’ in Hindi on their own, Dhanush says “I have seen quite a lot of technicians and cinematographers from South working in Bollywood films. What I personally feel is that instead of Tamil films or Hindi films, films made in India ought to be seen as Indian films!”
