The Mumbai media had blasted director K.S. Ravikumar’s on his debut directorial venture in Hindi. Ravikumar, a popular Tamil and Telugu director and a favourite of superstar Rajinikanth, debuted in Hindi as director with Policegiri which hit the screens countrywide last Friday (05th July). Policegiri has the now-in-jail Sanjay Dutt in lead role opposite Prachi Desai.
It’s a remake of the Tamil super-hit film Saamy which was directed by Hari and which had Vikram and Trisha in lead roles. Saamy happens to be one of the most significant hits in Vikram’s career wherein he essayed a tough cop’s role. Ravikumar started work on Policigiri a few months back and wrapped up the shoot before the unfortunate jail sentence was served on Sanjay Dutt.
NDTV, in its review of the film, has made a hard-hitting statement. “It would be good for the welfare of Bollywood if Ravikumar’s first Hindi film happens to be his last too. There have been plenty of talented film-makers in Bollywood and we don’t need one more. Policegiri is full of deafening noise; all the artistes shout at top of their voices and even the background music is terrible,” and gave it a 1/5.
Times Of India rated the film 2.5/5 and called the second half directionless
Rediff rating it 1/5 called it deafening, dowdy and drudging! And commented Even the actors playing heroined’s parents look younger than Dutt.
Indian Express rating it 1/5, has said there is not one thing about this film that is worthy of being watched
