t’s not uncommon for actors and actresses to disown Tamil films after earning name, fame and money by starring in and working for Tamil films for the major part in their careers. As such, choreographer-turned-actor-turned-director happens to be not the first one in disowning Tamil films and attributing all his name and fame to Telugu films which aided his process of becoming a filmmaker.
The bearded Prabhu was taking part at a function in Hyderabad. Speaking at the event, he said “Telugu films have always remained close to my heart. The kind of fame I have managed to achieve in Bollywood is mainly because of what I was able to achieve in Telugu films. Without Telugu films, I wouldn’t have been in this position as I find myself at present. Hyderabad is almost like my second home,” he concluded.
Readers might recall that Prabhu debuted as a choreographer, as a dancer and a as a hero in Tamil films. Starting off as a one-song dancer, he graduated as hero with Shankar’s Kadhalan in 1994. He then starred as a hero in many films during the next decade and fell in love with and married a Tamil Muslim girl (Ramalat) whom he divorced later.
Telugu films ‘embraced’ him only when he was out of favour in Tamil films. However, his affiliation for Tollywood and his comments of Tollywood being his ‘second home’ might not have gone down well with his millions of fans in Tamil Nadu!.
